Ngaji Gurrjin – Welcome Everyone

Montessori Broome acknowledge the traditional Custodians of this Land, where the Rubibi have performed age-old ceremonies of story-telling, music, dance and celebration. We acknowledge and pay respect to the Elders past and present, and we acknowledge those of the future, for they will hold the memories, traditions and hopes of Aboriginal Australians. We must always remember that under the concrete and asphalt, this Land is, was and always will be traditional Aboriginal Land.

Our Philosophy

At Montessori Broome, we aim to provide children and families with an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, nurturing and enjoyable. We offer a safe and supportive environment where children are valued and encouraged to develop to their full potential. Education at Montessori Broome is based on the principles and forward thinking of the Montessori Method of Education, developed by Maria Montessori. At the heart of this approach is the belief that children will reach their potential by having the freedom to learn in a classroom which is especially prepared for exploring under the careful guidance of a trained educator. We aim to provide a service that recognises each individual child and their journey towards education and life.

The Montessori Method of Education

Montessori Broome’s approach to education, inspires children towards a lifelong love of learning, by following their natural developmental trajectory. Children become confident, responsible, independent learners, who trust in their own abilities. The inclusivity and positive social development facilitated by the Montessori programme forms the basis for a persistent attachment to learning and knowledge. Through their work, the children develop concentration and joyful self-discipline. Within a framework of order, the children progress at their own pace and rhythm, according to their individual capabilities. The Montessori philosophy supports a personalised childhood development, by independently facilitating learning in prepared environments, based on their interest, family input, and educator knowledge.

Our Centre

Our centre boasts a nursery for children 0 – 2years of age, a toddler room for 2-3 year olds, and a kindy room for our 3 – 5 year olds. We have a separate dining room where we come together at meal times focusing on the importance of developing good eating behaviours as well as learning about nutrition and food variety. Our educators recognise mealtimes as an important time for social interaction, spending time in positive conversations to make mealtimes positive and relaxed. Our dining room provides children great opportunities to develop self-help skills and independence in meal management by encouraging children to be a part of the meal serving process. Montessori Broome have their own cook who uses local and seasonal produce, proudly avoiding using processed foods, preservatives and additives. Our centre also boasts a kitchen garden, so children can play an active part in growing the food they eat.

Our Community

Montessori Broome offers a highly culturally and inclusive environment whilst providing a diverse service which thrives on participation from the local community. We place great value on supporting and participating in the local community events therefore utilise local services in an effective and meaningful way. For instance, the Shinju Matsuri Festival happens every year where the staff and children make items and art activities relating to the history of Broome, the staff also enjoy participating in the Dragon Boat Race as a networking and social activity. Our unique outdoor play area incorporates our natural environment in which we live by providing children opportunities to role model and engage in play, reflecting places and activities that we do daily in our Broome community. Our unique outdoor play area incorporates our natural environment by providing children with opportunities to role model and engage in play reflecting places and activities that we do in our daily lives. We value our Broome community and this is reflected in our environments with mango trees, rocks, pindan (red dirt), beach sand, fishing in the outdoor boat and cubby houses with lots of natural boab trees, frangipani trees and shade trees.

Relationships with families

Our educators have great relationships with the families at our service developed through respect, trust and communication. Each family is valued and their feedback and ideas are greatly appreciated and incorporated into our programs and policy reviews. Our strong and trusting relationship with parents provide us with input into our centre planning and we continually encourage all new families at the centre to come along and participate in meetings to become member of our team.

Our Educators

Our educators at Mulberry Tree Childcare Broome have the appropriate certificates and qualifications to provide high quality early years education programs for children and regularly participate in further training to enhance and update our skills. We have enthusiastic educators who understand that families require a fun, safe, secure, trusting and educational environment for their children to prosper and learn. An additional benefit to the staff base is that several of our fabulous educators are also bilingual and offer the children the unique opportunity to learn other languages. By expanding the children’s knowledge of the wider world we live in we empower them to become more accepting and inclusive of others. With this knowledge children develop a greater appreciation for other cultures and traditions.
